FAQ

Common questions about gold rates

What is the gold rate today in India?

GoldVarta publishes an indicative national benchmark for 24K, 22K and 18K gold and 999 silver, shown per gram and per 10 grams, with the source and last update time displayed on the page.

Why does the gold rate differ between cities?

Transport and handling costs, local dealer premiums, regional demand and local levies all differ. City rates on GoldVarta are the national benchmark plus a configured local adjustment, and are clearly labelled as indicative.

How is the 22K rate calculated from the 24K rate?

22K gold is 91.6% pure, so its rate is approximately the 24K rate multiplied by 0.916. 18K gold is 75% pure, so it is approximately the 24K rate multiplied by 0.75. Where a provider publishes Indian karat rates directly, those are used instead.

Does the published rate include making charges and GST?

No. The published rate is for the metal only. A jeweller's bill adds making charges, wastage where charged separately, the value of any stones, and GST on the total.
